Bash Bish Falls — 80ft Cascade in Massachusetts
Bash Bish Falls is a 80-foot cascade waterfall in Berkshire County, Massachusetts, reached by a moderate hike over 1.5 miles.
Bash Bish Falls is Massachusetts' tallest waterfall — an 80-foot two-stream cascade on Bash Bish Brook in the Berkshire's southwest corner, where Massachusetts meets New York. The falls are easily accessed from the New York side via a flat 0.25-mile path; the longer Massachusetts Bash Bish Falls State Park trail is 1.5 miles each way with significant elevation gain. The pool at the base is iconic and historically a swimming spot, though swimming is now strictly prohibited following multiple drownings. The Berkshire fall foliage in October is exceptional.
What to expect
Choose your state: from New York, drive to Bash Bish Falls New York State Park for the easier 0.25-mile flat walk. From Massachusetts, the Bash Bish Falls State Park trail is 1.5 miles each way with 400 feet of climb. Both end at the same overlook. No swimming — strictly enforced. Pair with the Mount Everett summit hike (Massachusetts side) or the Catamount ski area trails (New York side). Best in October fall foliage and after spring rains.
