Moxie Falls — 90ft Plunge in Maine
Moxie Falls is a 90-foot plunge waterfall in Somerset County, Maine, reached by a moderate hike over 1.7 miles.
Moxie Falls is the 90-foot plunge waterfall on Moxie Stream in northwestern Maine — possibly the tallest single-drop waterfall in New England. Reached via a 1.7-mile easy-to-moderate trail in the Kennebec River region near The Forks, Moxie's wilderness setting and the Bigelow Range backdrop make it a destination for whitewater rafters who paddle the Kennebec and want a side adventure. Logging-road access and rural-Maine remoteness mean checking road conditions before driving from Skowhegan.
What to expect
Drive to The Forks, Maine (about 90 minutes north of Augusta). The Moxie Falls trailhead is a few miles south on Lake Moxie Road. The 1.7-mile trail (each way) is well-maintained gravel with a few wooden stairs and bridges. The falls overlook has a viewing platform. The base of the falls is reachable via a short scramble — slippery, do at your own risk. Best in early summer (May-July) when Moxie Stream runs full from snowmelt. Pair with a Kennebec rafting trip (May-September commercial whitewater).

Calm summer mornings let you bring a polarizer so the plunge pool below Moxie Falls stays saturated even in bright light.
