Shoshone Falls — 212ft Block in Idaho
Shoshone Falls is a 212-foot block waterfall in Jerome County, Idaho, reached by drive-up access over 0.2 miles.
Shoshone Falls in Twin Falls, Idaho is the 'Niagara of the West' — a 212-foot block waterfall on the Snake River that's actually 36 feet taller than Niagara, though the flow is dramatically reduced in summer and fall by upstream irrigation diversions. Spring snowmelt (April-May) is the spectacular season, when the falls run at full force and the spray reaches the rim viewing area. The city of Twin Falls runs the overlook park; vehicle fees apply during peak runoff weekends. The Snake River canyon stretches dramatically east and west from the falls.
What to expect
Drive into Twin Falls (off I-84). Take 3300 East (Falls Avenue) east about 5 miles to the overlook. Pay the city's vehicle fee during spring runoff weekends ($5/vehicle); free in low-flow seasons. Multiple paved overlooks of the falls and the upper canyon; a longer trail loops down toward the river but the main view is from the rim. Pair with the Perrine Bridge (the BASE-jumping bridge over the canyon) and the Snake River Canyon Rim trail. Best April-May for full flow.
