Falling Waters Falls — 73ft Plunge in Florida
Falling Waters Falls is a 73-foot plunge waterfall in Washington County, Florida, reached by an easy walk over 0.5 miles.
Falling Waters Falls is Florida's tallest waterfall — a 73-foot plunge into a 100-foot-deep cylindrical sinkhole at Falling Waters State Park near Chipley, in the Florida Panhandle. The water disappears into the limestone karst at the bottom of the sinkhole and joins the underground aquifer system characteristic of Florida geology. It's an unusual waterfall — a stream falling into the ground rather than over a cliff — and one of the more distinctive natural features in Florida. Flow is heavy after rain and can dry to nothing in droughts.
What to expect
Drive into Falling Waters State Park (off I-10 at Chipley). Pay the state park entry fee. Park near the falls trail. Walk the short paved 0.5-mile trail to the boardwalk that descends into the sinkhole. Multiple viewing platforms let you observe the waterfall plunging into the limestone basin. Pair with the park's 100-acre Sand Mountain area, the swimming lake, or the Florida-Alabama state-line interpretive walk.
